Off-Road Vehicle Design

Take on the challenges of an engineer, designing and modifying vehicles to handle conditions that would stop an ordinary ride in its tracks.

What makes a vehicle unstoppable? How do you build something that can power through mud, climb over obstacles, and stay on course when the terrain gets tough?

Start by investigating how terrain, traction, stability, and weather affect performance, then use the engineering design process to build and test your own vehicle. Experiment with wheelbases, wheel counts, body shapes, and gear ratios to find the right balance of power, speed, and control. Put your designs through increasingly challenging conditions, learn from breakdowns and unexpected results, and make adjustments on the fly. Then, take everything you’ve learned into a multi-leg Road Rally where engineering decisions and driving skills go head-to-head.

What you'll do

Engineering Vehicle Design

Put Your Vehicle to the Test

Take on dirt, sand, mud, and water while investigating how traction, stability, and terrain affect the way a vehicle performs.

RC Car Designing

Modify for the Mission

Experiment with wheelbases, wheel counts, body shapes, and aerodynamic design. Make strategic modifications to help your vehicle handle specific challenges.

Gear Design for RC Car

Find the Right Gear

Explore the relationship between power and speed and learn how gear ratios can change performance. Test different setups to find the ideal balance for each type of terrain.

Off Road Vehicle Course

Take on the Road Rally

Put your engineering skills to the ultimate test in a multi-leg obstacle course. Make adjustments on the fly, tackle tough conditions, and see how your design performs from start to finish.
