Forensic Science

Step into the shoes of a detective in the field and a forensic scientist in the lab as you investigate a simulated on-campus crime scene.

Hunt for telltale evidence of criminal activity by examining blood spatter, fingerprints, and fibers of unknown origin with precise skill and an eye for detail. Uncover the abilities and limitations of forensic science to untangle mysteries, both in a mock crime scene on campus and in famous cases throughout history. Use real-world techniques of chromatography and hair analysis as you team up with your friends to examine evidence and draw conclusions about your suspects. Apply your newfound lab skills, deductive logic, and a dose of gut instinct to crack the case wide open.

We’ll dive into the secrets behind false memories and expose the ways advertising tries to manipulate our behavior, learn some of the science behind human attention and behavior, and tackle theories of personality development. From biology to environment to culture, we’ll consider all of the influences that affect how you perceive and navigate your world.

What you'll do

Workshop_ForensicScience_009-1

Hands-On, Literally

Lift fingerprints from a variety of objects using forensic techniques to obtain the cleanest print. Compare samples against similar prints to home in on a suspect.

Workshop_ForensicScience_003-1

Scope it Out

Practice microscope techniques until you have enough evidence to cross-reference hair and fiber samples found at the crime scene.

Powers of Deduction

Whether analyzing blood spatter patterns and clothing fibers or piecing together seemingly disparate bits of evidence, you'll need to sift through an array of suspects to find the truth.
