Amusement Park Engineering

The sky’s the limit! Use engineering and your imagination to design an amusement park.

About this Workshop

Campus: Regis College | Rising Grades: 4,5

Do you enjoy thrill rides that turn you (and your insides) upside down? Or do you prefer to get soaked under a huge waterfall or jump into a wave pool to cool off on a hot summer day? Amusement park engineers use their knowledge of physics, engineering, and a lot of imagination to create immersive experiences for park goers that excite all of their senses! Join our team of engineers as we construct a new amusement park with attractions no one has experienced before. From Ferris wheels that light up and rotate on their own to gravity-defying roller coasters and more, we’ll construct and tinker with a variety of exciting rides and attractions. As you design, build, and test your models, you’ll learn the physics behind how it all works and discover that the only limits are your imagination and a bit of engineering science.

Highlights

Use the physics of roller coasters and gravitational potential energy to design a ride with hills, loops, twists, and turns.

Illuminate a self-rotating Ferris wheel using circuits.

Design an interactive exhibit that uses audio, physical, or sensory effects to engage the senses for an extreme dose of fun.

Make a colorful waterpark and invite your EXPLO friends to test it out and get soaked.
