What Lights Me Up

“I have a competitive streak and I like to argue, I guess. When someone or something is wrong, I can’t just let it go. If people never point out why something’s wrong, how will things ever get better? My mom tells me I’d make a good lawyer.”

My Day at EXPLO

Day Student
Morning Huddle
8:30 AM

One of my advisors taught us how to play werewolves. We all get really into it—I like it when my mom drops me off early so that I get a few extra minutes to play.

Workshop 1
9:15 AM

Competitive Debate

We talked a lot today about physical posture and voice projection. It’s not all about facts—you need to know how to act to debate well.

Workshop 2
10:15 AM

Mock Trial

Today we started analyzing fact patterns to get ready to start building our case. I’m on a team prosecuting a burglary.

Lunch
12:00 PM

My friends and I ate our mac n cheese and broccoli as quickly as we could in order to get in as many rounds of gaga as possible before electives.

Elective
1:15 PM

Comedy: Improv + Beyond

Improv turns out to be a lot like debate—a lot of thinking on your feet.

Check-In
2:40 PM

A friend from my day group told me about what he learned in his Codebreaking elective—did you know that there are more than five different types of simple ciphers?

Clubs, Leagues,
+ Activities
2:45 PM

One of my friends is an amazing dancer, so he started a Hip Hop Dance Club to teach us some of his favorite moves. I don’t really consider myself a dancer, but it’s so much fun to learn from my friend.

Flex Time
4:15 PM

I grabbed an iced tea from the on-campus cafe, and then went to the student lounge to play a few rounds of ping pong with a few of my friends from Mock Trial.

Dinner
5:45 PM

I’m staying late tonight for the evening event (and because the dining hall has tacos tonight).

Check-In
6:45 PM

We did our House Cheers, and Whales were the loudest, of course. Go whales!

Evening Event
7:00 PM

Waterpark night was so much fun. I got one of my friends really good with a water balloon, then got to dump a bucket of water on my Mock Trial teacher’s head.

Day Student Late Pick-Up
9:00 PM

Pick your Classes. Make friends. Have summer fun.
