What Lights Me Up

“I think of myself as a humanitarian. I don’t want to be one of those people who just complains about the world—I want to do my part to fix things and help people in need.”

My Day at EXPLO

Breakfast
8:00 AM

I want to eat fresh fruit, but… so many kinds of cereal! I ended up with veggie sausage, strawberries and cantaloupe, and a mix of Rice Krispies and Chex.

Workshop Period 1
9:00 AM

Acting + Directing

Today we worked on blocking the scene we’ll perform at the end of the session for the entire program. Our instructor, Gina, is amazing.  She’s been in so many productions and she’s so supportive.   I never would have done acting at home, but here it’s different. It feels great.

Workshop Period 2
11:00 AM

Law + Social Movements

We dove into the Voting Rights Act today. It’s so inspiring to learn how to actually make change with legislation instead of just talking about it.

Lunch
12:30 PM

I signed up for the Boston University tour for tomorrow. I’m really excited to go because my mom graduated from there.

Electives
2:00 PM

Cardio Kickboxing + Self-Defense

What a workout, after last week’s College Planning elective! Feels good though.

Community Meeting
3:45 PM

Open Time
4:00 PM

I couldn’t put it off any longer!  I had to do some laundry.  But then Raphael and Liza, who are in my acting class – we headed to the Ville and ran into Sunil and Gabi at JP Licks.  We all talked about what to do for weekend trips.  We couldn’t decide between Six Flags, the beach, or a play.

Dinner
6:00 PM

Pretty full from the ice cream at J.P.Licks, but tomorrow night I’m signed up for Dinner with Strangers.  My roommate did it the other day.  They assign you a dinner table of people you don’t know and a faculty host who comes with questions.

Living Group Check-In
7:15 PM

I practiced my lines for Acting and Directing with my RA, Abby. She said she can’t wait to see our final performance! She also let us know that we were in second place in the house competition. Abby gave us all a pep talk because she wants us to win! So do we!

Evening Programs
7:30 PM

A couple girls on my floor went on the evening trip to MIT and Kendall Square.  Liza, Raphael and I went to this incredible concert with an a capella group.  And then we went to the fire pit and made s’mores.  This campus is gorgeous and I love that we can sit with the fire under the stars.

Residence Hall Check-In
10:15 PM

I seriously think I have the best living group.  Bates 3! Ronnie made mac and cheese for everyone and Juno made popcorn. Andie got frozen pizza, but the wrong kind!  I love having a kitchen on the floor. And as usual, we sat around talking with our RA.

Pick your program. Get ahead. Have summer fun.
