What Lights Me Up

“Both my parents are in business, and my older sister is an accounting major in college, so I think business is in my blood. I love learning about companies, especially in tech, and trying to anticipate their next moves in the market. Maybe I’ll turn it into my career.”

My Day at EXPLO

Breakfast
8:00 AM

I am a big breakfast person.  Omelette, home fries, bacon, and a bagel. OK mom, I ate some blueberries for you!

Workshop Period 1
9:00 AM

Finance

I’ve traded some stocks online before, but we’re actually building and testing our own financial trading algorithms.  The first couple ones I did tanked.  Thankfully I wasn’t actually invested.  But my latest one is doing better. I think I’m starting to get the hang of this.

Workshop Period 2
11:00 AM

Business Management

We’re in teams today competing to analyze a Harvard Business School management case.  This management stuff is a lot more complicated than I thought.  No wonder my mom says managing people and figuring out a winning strategy is tough. Fingers crossed…

Lunch
12:30 PM

Gotta say, I do like the food here.  Huge salad bar.  Deli bar.  For lunch they had tacos and enchiladas. I topped it off with a walk into town for J.P. Licks ice cream.

Electives
2:00 PM

Movement for Athletes

I think I’ve discovered some muscles I didn’t know I had.  Just a little sore, but good. I’m going to use some of this for track and lacrosse. Kind of ironic that I’ll be trading in Movement for Athletes next week for an elective in Pastry Decorating.  This place is just full of these strange combos of things to do.

Community Meeting
3:45 PM

Open Time
4:00 PM

I joined a soccer league.  There are a bunch of kids from South America and Europe who play every day.  It’s been great hanging out with them.  We’re talking about visiting each other in France after the program.

Dinner
6:00 PM

I went to dinner with my roommate Tung and two kids from the finance class.  Egg rolls, jasmine rice, chicken, and stir fry.  And yes, mom, I did have ice cream – again!

Living Group Check-In
7:15 PM

Gil, our RA, told us we are in first place in the house competition, but BARELY!  We totally could lose this??? Gil had us do the Freeman two chant.  Bates 3 is in second place and they were actually taunting us from across the quad!

Evening Programs
7:30 PM

Tonight was the Staff + Student Talent Show. A guy in my hall is a really good dancer, so he performed a routine. Then my finance instructor read a poem she had written. It was really cool to see people I know showcase their talents.

Residence Hall Check-In
10:15 PM

Jerome and Isaac, these two kids from New York, went up to the floor early and made brownies for Diego’s 17th birthday.  My RA also told us about Weekend trips. I really hope I get my first choice; white water rafting!

Pick your program. Get ahead. Have summer fun.
